LET´S LEARN ABOUT RUSSIA!

And now it´s time to learn about Russia! Thanks to our Russian visitor, Bera, we learnt many new things about this large country. She brought some matryoshkas, also called nesting dolls, to the classroom and we enjoyed watching her putting ones inside the others. Amazing!
And as she is an English teacher, she also gave us some good advices to improve our English during the summer holidays.
Thank you very much, Bera!

SCAVENGER HUNT

How funny! We went on a scavenger hunt last week and we had a great time! In groups of four, we first had to look for a long list of things around our playground: stones, sticks, wildflowers, barks, feathers, seeds, ... Lots of spring stuff! Later, when our teacher checked that everything was found, she gave us a treasure map and we went on a treasure hunt. First we had to answer three questions located in three different places and then we went to find the treasure. Each team found a "cache" or treasure: a plastic box with a notebook and some little gifts. We wrote the date, the name of our group and a sentence in the notepad and then we took a present, but we left another one in exchange. It was very exciting! We want to repeat it again!

GEOCACHING

Geaocaching is a treasure hunt game using high-tech: a GPS device. You have to go to this web page: www.geocaching.com and take the coordenades to find a "cache" or treasure. After introducing them in your GPS device, you gcan o to look for it: it´s normally a plastic box that contains a notebook and some small gifts. You can take one present but leaving another one in exchange. And very important: nobody can see you! There are many caches hidden all over the world. In fact, you can find several caches here in our town. Why don´t you go geocaching next weekend? It´s great fun! Good luck!

THE BEATLES

This year it has been the 50th anniversary of the creation of THE BEATLES, also known as THE FAB FOUR. It was the most important British group and its fame spread all around the world. Some people think it was the best band ever!
To celebrate this event, we are going to organise a BRITISH DAY dedicated to THE BEATLES. We all have to participate in the famous TV programme "Britain´s got talent" as contestants. We are going to sing three of the Beatles songs (one each group). Here are the selected ones:

- 6A: "She loves you"
- 6B: "Michelle"
- 6C: "And I love her"

We have to practice as much as possible. If you want to do it at home, here are the lyrics. Hands on!

GARDENING

These days we are talking about the spring and the variety of things we can do just because it´s springtime. And yesterday we went outside, to the playground, to do two funny activities:

- First we planted an Afrincan daisy in an empty yoghurt.
- Then we collected some wild flowers to make a herbarium (a book of flowers).

We all enjoyed a lot! And we learned some curiosities about some flowers too. For example:
- BUTTERCUP: Put this flower under your chin and check if you can see its yellow relect. If so, you like butter.
- DANDELION: Make a wish and .... BLOW!!!
- THISTLE: It´s the Scottish emblem.
- BLUBELL: Fairies use this flower to trap children. Careful!!!
- POPPY: Poppy Day is on 11th November.

Have a look at these photos to see our job...

LET´S COOK!

Do you fancy a trifle? As you know, a trifle is a typical English dessert made of sponge cake, jam, bananas, peaches, custard and cream in different layers. Today is a good day to cook, so... READY, STEADY, COOK!
We all had a fantastic time in our Cookery Club. We all looked as authentic cooks with our aprons and hats. And the trifle was delicious! Besides, we counted with the help of Susana, a girl from London, mother of two children in our school, who taught us how to make a real trifle. Thank you so much for coming!!!

EASTER IN THE RED SCHOOL

What a busy day! The Easter holiday is about to start, but first we went on an Easter egg hunt in the playground. Some eggs were very difficult to find but we did it! We all wore our beautiful Easter bonnets and the school was very colourful. Luckily it didn´t rain, although the sky was completely covered with grey clouds. A fantastic end for a long term! Welcome spring!
Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy your holidays!

A GREEN DAY!!!

Amazing! Everything was green today in our English classroom! There were lots of leprechaun´s traps, shamrocks, gold coins, green clothes, green faces,... We received the visit of an Irish man too: Declan Mathews. He explained many things about Ireland and about its most fanmous celebration: St. Patrick´s Day. In the end, we had to answer 10 questions about his talk and we caught a leprechaun! So we got his pot of gold! Delicious gold chocolate coins!
And we all sang the fantastic song "Molly Malone". It really moved us!
Thank you very much, Declan! An unforgettable day!
